I learned a great deal during this program, and I was able to produce tangible products, making the program feel very rewarding. All of the instructors, peer ambassadors, and fellow participants were incredibly intelligent and supportive people. It was a lot of fun to see what everyone was interested in and helped me learn about many new topics. If you had questions, people were ready and eager to answer them. The instructors provide a lot of resources and opportunities for everyone! I had a lot of fun, and it was absolutely a great experience, 10/10!

At the conclusion of the Summit Research Scholars program, I realized that it was the most productive week I have probably ever had. From technical tutorials on data science tools to amazing research guidance that kick-started my research journey, everything I learned is going to stick with me for the rest of my education. The final capstone project pushed me to pursue something I had wanted to do for a long time, and now I have a clear vision of how to execute it. Really enjoyed meeting the mentors and hearing their experiences!

What made this experience truly unique were the mentors. From the very first session, they felt approachable and supportive, and over time, they became not just guides but true allies. They patiently answered every question, provided thoughtful feedback, and supported even my “101 open tabs” moments of curiosity. Even after the program ended, I felt their guidance and encouragement continue, which made the learning journey feel limitless. This program sparked a desire to keep exploring, creating, and researching.

The experiences I had and the people I reconnected with during this program helped reveal the vast world of research! I was very interested in several topics, and the wide range of support and collaboration available during this program greatly helped me discuss and narrow down my areas of research as well as connect with others who could help me propel my research in the near future.

This program was able to pack in a meaningful amount of useful information, insights, and advice on how to approach research from different perspectives. SRS taught me that there are multiple ways to carry out research and that no question or observation is too small or insignificant to investigate. Overall, I especially appreciated the variety of resources offered, the flexibility of the schedule, and the one-on-one opportunities to connect with mentors, teaching assistants, and peers. It was a truly unique experience, and I’m excited to apply the skills I gained sooner rather than later.

I went into this program unsure of what to expect. I had never gotten into research because I didn’t know where to start but this program led me step by step. Initially, I didn’t even realize I was researching because I was just exploring new subjects that peaked my interest. Through free writing I was able to find a new topic that intrigues me and with the guidance of the program’s mentors I was able to write a thorough research proposal. I leave this program with research I’m excited to conduct and an improved view on research and everything it involves.

My advice is all about perspective. While you’re working on your proposal, keep in mind that the end goal isn't just completing the final capstone, but to learn the fundamentals of research and to develop the skills necessary to write research papers. Keep in mind why you’re doing the work. The end goal is real, impactful research, hopefully in a field you love.

Take advantage of every opportunity and every resource! All of the instructors and staff were incredibly supportive. I recommend attending office hours and discussion sections, reaching out to mentors, and not being afraid to ask questions. Talking with mentors was one of the most rewarding experiences I had throughout the program, and they actually introduced me to new opportunities where I could continue to pursue my research knowledge.

Ryan Hernandez

I would advise future scholars to get involved and network with other students, as that was one of the best things I did. I met many amazing people I can turn to for help, both mentors and peers. Staying for optional events is also important, as they offer numerous networking and learning opportunities, and taking advantage of these events are incredibly beneficial. There are many mentors with unique advice available, and they can introduce you to so many new opportunities.

Julia Zucchi

Take the leap with curiosity and courage, and make the most out of the program. Reach out to your mentors and take the time to connect with your peers because those relationships, guidance, and little moments of support will make the experience literally so unforgettable. SRS was one of my favorite highlights from 2025. The experience might even get you opportunities you weren't expecting!

The biggest piece of advice I would give is to be present! Don’t just sit there; actually engage. If you have time, try to make it to all the optional events. They’re fun and really interesting, and I personally enjoyed them. So, participate, talk to people, and take something meaningful from the program because that’s what you’re there to do.

Reese Gwaltney

Attend all the lessons, even optional events, and try everything! You miss so many opportunities if you don't even try to take them. Be confident in yourself, and know that you do belong in this community of students, even though other people might seem like they've achieved more already, or they have so much more experience. You also have a lot to bring to the table in this community, and it's a really great place to learn from both mentors and other students.
